What does the De Beers Code of Origin mean?
It is a customized code unique to your diamond, providing assurance that it was discovered in Botswana, Canada, Nambia, or South Africa. They are also:
Natural and conflict-free
Improve people’s lives in the local communities
Help protect the planet
THE INSPIRATION
Melissa: Debra, your Barefoot and Watu collections are empowering and beautiful from the inside out… I mean this in name and the jewel itself. I have a feeling there is a similar alignment with your NDUR collection?
Debra: Melissa, you know me well! I can only create with meaning and intention. Diamonds have always represented enduring love and now a diamond can represent even more. The Code of Origin diamonds not only symbolize enduring love, but the efforts taken to ensure that people, wildlife, and our planet will also endure.
THE DIAMONDS
Melissa: Let’s talk about the importance of the gemstones you choose. Your Watu collection is special for the super juicy colored gemstones sourced from artisanal miners in East Africa - some of which are women! Can you describe your “why” behind the diamonds in your NDUR Collection?
Debra: Diamonds, the near colorless type, are my first love. They’re what I bought, sold, and appraised the most in my retail career. The problem with diamonds, from a brand perspective, is that I couldn’t say they were mined ethically or were conflict-free. In fact, there’s no way to know with 100% certainty that any diamond on the market is conflict-free. That is until now.
THE DESIGN SIGNATURE
Melissa: What I LOVE about your Watu Collection is your signature Tenda cut - a single flat facet (or two) that is like a window into the soul of these colored gemstones. How would you describe the design signature of NDUR?
Debra: An element present in both Barefoot and Watu is the hexagon. It is important to me for its relationship to bees and the hive. Because my name means “the bee” in Hebrew, I have always respected the bee’s role in the balance of nature. They are tiny superpowers! I carried the hexagons as a signature element into NDUR as well. I wanted to start with foundational pieces like tennis bracelets, and diamond hoops - the staples that belong in every woman’s jewelry wardrobe.

Botswana is a vision of socio-economic empowerment. Essentially, it is a partnership between a business operating (with vertical integration) in partnership with civil society and government. Investments are made in communities and benefits are shared by all. Women also occupy roles in places that matter!
